Aġenzija Żgħażagħ

       

The Mission of Aġenzija Żgħażagħ is to Manage and implement the National Youth Policy Towards 2020 and promote and safeguard the interests of young people, which it pursues through the following policy measures.


NEW SPACES AT LOCAL COMMUNITY LEVEL FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AND YOUTH ORGANISATIONS

Aġenzija Żgħażagħ
is creating new spaces and facilities at local community level  to support  the  development of young people through their active involvement and participation in non-formal learning opportunities. These include Youth Activity Centres, Youth Cafés and Youth Hubs. Aġenzija Żgħażagħ's new head office at Umberto Colosso, Santa Venera also houses the Youth Village, which provides space, facilities and supports for young people and youth organisations to organise events and initiatives. Detached youth work services, schools outreach services and local youth community centres  are also being developed to cater for the needs of socio-economically excluded and hard-to-reach young people. Financial and other supports are also available for voluntary  youth organisations.


AWARNESS RAISING, LISTENING TO AND SUPPORTING THE VOICE OF YOUNG PEOPLE.

One of the functions of Aġenzija Żgħażagħ is not only to provide information to young people on issues that relate to and impact on their lives but also to provide them with a platform through which they can be communicated with and consulted. Aġenzija Żgħażagħ web portal
www.agenzijazghazagh,gov.mt is a means of both informing and consulting with young people and kellimni.com offers an on-line support and counseling service for young people. Aġenzija Żgħażagħ also coordinates the National Working Group on the Structured Dialogue and regularly consults with young people on EU youth related issues. Aġenzija Żgħażagħ is also a member organisation of the European Youth Card Association (EYCA), which offers discounts to young people on a wide range of products and services in all 36 member countries of the EYCA. Young people visiting any of these countries. There are some 6,000 Youth Card holders in Malta.


PROGRAMMES AND INITIATIVES FOR THE ACTIVE ENGAGEMENT AND PARTICIPATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE

Aġenzija  Żgħażagħ is implementing a wide range of initiatives, programmes and activities at local and national level aimed at developing young people's competencies and skills and  enhancing their future learning and employment prospects including the following: Youth Literature Contest; Youth Specialisation Studies Scheme; New Music
al Artists; Contemporary Arts Project (Divergent Thinkers); Social Drama Mini Festival; Youth Local Councils Project; Music Tuition for Young People in Band Clubs; and Debate Society League.


Youth.inc

Youth.inc, an inclusive education programme, based on applied learning for young people between the ages of 16 and 21 came under the remit and management of Aġenzija Żgħażagħ. Youth.inc in 2014. 106 young people participated in the programme in 2015/2016.


EU AND INTERNATIONAL


At European level,
Aġenzija Żgħażagħ represents Malta on the EU Youth Working Party, the twice yearly Youth Conference and the Council of Europe's Steering Committee on Youth. Aġenzija Żgħażagħ is also an active member of the EU/Council of Europe Youth Partnership, ERYICA (European Youth Information and Counselling Agency) and EKCYP (European Knowledge Centre for Youth Policy). The agency also participates and attends other youth related international fora and events organised by the Council of Europe, the Commonwealth and the UN.
